Fort Collins, Loveland companies lay off hundreds of employees amid coronavirus pressure

Fort Collins and Loveland businesses hit by mandatory coronavirus closures and limited by social distancing measures are turning to mass layoffs and furloughs. 

According to the Colorado Department of Labor and Employment, two Larimer County companies reported laying off more than 230 employees combined at the end of last month, according to listings kept and published through the Worker Readjustment and Retraining Notification Act, or WARN.

On March 21, Metropolitan Theatres, which owns the MetroLux 14 movie theater at Centerra and the MetroLux Dine-In theater in downtown Loveland, laid off 120 employees and furloughed 11, according to WARN listings.

The Elizabeth Hotel in downtown Fort Collins also reported laying off 111 employees, from bellmen to bartenders, on March 27.
