Governor dons face mask to urge Coloradans to wear them in public

Colorado Gov. Jared Polis says it’s time to make mask-wearing cool.

During a Friday afternoon news conference, Polis encouraged everyone to wear a cloth mask when they leave the house, another tool in the fight against coronavirus.

“We’re asking all Coloradans to wear face coverings when they go out of the house for any of your essential functions like grocery shopping.”

Later Friday afternoon, President Donald Trump announced the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is now recommending the use of nonmedical cloth masks, either homemade or purchased, in public settings.

The CDC recommendation is just that, Trump said, and not mandatory, though he said he probably wouldn’t be wearing a mask. The recommendation does not replace social distancing measures, he said.

Polis, on the other hand, proceeded to model his own cloth face mask, made out of fabric featuring Colorado state flag.

He said masks can be made from old T-shirts, and no sewing skills are needed. The mask should cover your nose and mouth and allow you to breathe through it.
